When initiating a new recording in Clueso, you will be presented with three options for sharing your screen. Each option is designed to cater to different recording scenarios. This article will provide a description of each option and guide you on when to choose what.
If you’re using a Windows machine, we strongly recommend hiding your Taskbar at the bottom and the Chrome bookmarks bar. This is to ensure the aspect ratio of the video is not too elongated.
Choose the Browser Tab option if your recording will stay within a single tab. If you need to switch tabs, you can still do so, but you’ll have to click the “Share this tab instead” button in your browser each time you switch. This option gives you the highest recording quality and hides your browser’s tabs and bookmarks bar from the video.
Choose the Window option if you’ll be switching between multiple tabs in the same browser window. Unlike the single-tab option, you won’t need to click a button each time you switch. The trade-off is that the recording quality may be slightly lower than when sharing a single tab.
Select the Entire Screen option if you need to move between different browser windows or even other applications on your computer. This option offers the most flexibility, but it produces the lowest recording quality of the three.
Why aren’t dropdowns or tooltips showing up in my recording?
If your app uses the default HTML select tag for dropdowns, Chrome renders these menus (and some tooltips) as a separate layer on top of the page. Because of this, they won’t appear in recordings made with Browser Tab or Window mode. Use the Entire Screen option to capture these elements.
Why are some parts of my recording visible in the article but not in the video?
By defaule Clueso has permission to capture clicks and screenshots across tabs and windows, but not the video itself. So, if you’re recording in Browser Tab mode and forget to click “Share this tab instead” after switching tabs, or if you move to a different window without selecting Entire Screen, the sync points in your script and screenshots in your article will show certain screenshots but the video won’t include those frames.
